Any Gamblers?

Smoking is ugly and I don't want to be ugly.

So my plans for Europe include giving up ciggarettes. It's nasty habit, one I'm rather ashamed of. I'm not in my 20's hanging out in bars or clubs anymore. I tend to hide when I do smoke, just because I know how unattractive it can be. So I smoke at home and alone in my car. So I figure I'm gonna get a days jump on it when we are traveling. Can't smoke in airports, I'm not one to risk losing a flight because I HAD to go outside and smoke. So might as well use that as a launch pad. Basically from 12pm until 6:30 am the FOLLOWING day I can't smoke. That's 18 hours. Smoke free. Easy eh? I've gone longer. None of my Dr's have really made an issue of it, like I said I don't smoke a lot. However all that said, if I find myself getting too cranky, I'm gonna fold. I don't want to stomp around like a 2 year old (or a TTQ). Maybe I'll pick up some of that gum, you know just to try instead of caving in too easily. Maybe not.

You could never look ugly!!

Good luck. It is tough but you can do it! And if you cave ... well, there are worse things.

I never could get through a temper tantrum without smoking again. That gum is nasty, but the patch is okay.

How I quit and never looked back? I'm so glad you asked -- the book "Potatoes not prozac" I don't follow her plan to a t, but I do eat a protien breakfast every day, I take a b-complex, a vitamin c, fish oil, and a cal-mag-zinc combo (just do calcium, magnesium if zinc makes you nauseated).

Changes my biochemistry enough that I can be pissed off and not even think about a cigarette -- it still shocks me after years of not smoking. That whole tight chest thing where your entire body begs you for a cigarette so you can get relief? Doesn't happen anymore.

Eat breakfast and go to Walgreens -- or don't, but it worked for me.

interesting... I'm not a big breakfast person and I'm on a low protein diet, my body turns protein into toxic levels and I take meds to flush them.

then you would probably want to skip the protein, but not the breakfast.

it's partially about keeping a steady blood sugar level

I quit cold turkey about 5 years ago... but I was a social smoker more than anything. It's hard! Have you heard of that pill Chantix? I know a guy who smoked for 18 years, took chantix for two months and has quit for almost a year now.

GOOD LUCK!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

annnnd.... i gambled last week and I won $2.92! HA! (on a 1/2 penny slot machine)

good luck with it. When i went to Thailand a girl who came with us was a smoker, so she just bought the patches for the plan ride. Seemed to work...

Actually we do have a couple of boxes of Chantix here from when Honey was going to give up his chew, his bad habit left over from baseball.. maybe I'll give it a go, it's one of the few free things our insurance gives us..

definitely give it a go. especially if it's free!
